MUSIC AND MATHS
Simon Gunton, Musical Director of Escape Artists, has recently developed Music and Maths workshops that are designed to encourage young people to explore topics such as probability and fractions by creating their own rhythms and harmonies.
Groups participating in the Music and Maths workshops are taught how to create original pieces of work which are then recorded onto CD. Like other Escape Artists workshops, these workshops can range in length from one day to ten days.
The music and maths workshops can be adapted to suit children of all ages and can be OCN accredited, if required, from July 2006.
As well as performing as a soloist at the BBC Proms, Simon has also provided backing for artists such as Robbie Williams and George Michael. Last year one of his Music and Maths workshops featured on the BBC News Website.
A guide to the Music and Maths workshops, including costs, is available here.
MUSIC AND LITERACY
Our Music and Literacy course is a particularly popular workshop which uses music as a tool to raise literacy levels. It is delivered through music composition sessions in which participants are encouraged to write their own lyrics and create their own piece of music.
As our Music and Literacy workshop is accredited through the Open College Network, participants can obtain a certificate in Writing for Meaning on successful completion of the course.
Throughout the workshop, Escape Artists will provide advice, information and contact details to interested participants on further training and work opportunities in the arts.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT TRAINING
The Pre-employment Training course is designed to meet the needs of young people about to enter the labour market for the first time; using drama techniques to better prepare them in their search for employment. The Course represents 30 hours of teaching, which can be spread over a period of time that suits your needs. Exercises employed in the course have emerged and been adapted from techniques used successfully by actors to, for example, optimise prospects at auditions, foster self-confidence and belief, cope with pressure and utilise relaxation exercises in order to enhance performance. All of the aforementioned techniques are assimilated within the training in order to equip learners for interviews, working under pressure, bonding with colleagues and maximising employment prospects. Participants also benefit from exercises designed specifically to promote positive posture, self-presentation and an awareness of the importance of body language.
The Pre-employment Training course is available in either accredited (OCN) or unaccredited form. 'The staff and presenters were very professional and enthusiastic.
The success of this programme is a reflection of their commitment.' 'The students increased their self esteem and awareness. Their knowledge of employment possibilities have been enhanced. The acquisition of a certification has been an immense good in terms of self assurance.'
