PAST WORK

Some of the things we've done

Here you can find out more about some of the projects and productions that we have worked on: From working with young offenders on pre-employment training programmes, to bringing together community groups in Cambridge to presenting Adoreus in King's College Chapel.

This section is still under development but will shortly include information about the Edge Festivals in Cambridge and Rome, and some of our earlier projects and productions.

ADOREUS - A CAMBRIDGE CANTATA
"...profoundly moving, entertaining and inspiring"

Read an article on this production at King's College Chapel which brought together the Choir of King's College Chapel with community groups from Sue Ryder Care and Fulbourn Hospital.

'It is the morning after the Cantata at King’s and my feet still have not touched the ground! Like everyone else who was privileged to be present, I found your work profoundly moving, entertaining and inspiring. Thank you for a wonderful evening.'

Councillor John Hipkin. Mayor of Cambridge

NEW WEBSITES
For the promotion of arts in prisons

In 2005 we were commissioned by the Anne Peaker Centre for Arts in Criminal Justice to design and build three new websites for the sector.

Find our more about these websites in our research section or go straight to the new websites by clicking on the links below.

the Anne Peaker Centre
the website for the national organisation that promotes and supports the use of the arts in criminal justice

Joining the Dots
an interactive online resource for professionals working with the arts and criminal justice sector

Arts on the Out
a web based resource for offenders and ex-offenders

NEW DIRECTIONS
Arts courses in Young Offender Institutions

Through the generous support of the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund we have been able to develop arts based OCN courses. These were launched in three young offender institutions, under the New Directions title, in early 2005.

These courses, which include Music and Maths, Pre-employment Training, Drama and Music and Literacy, now form an integral part of our services.

'The whole team of Escape Artists is professional, supportive and a joy to work with... I look forward to working with you again in the future.'

SHORT FILM AWARD
'Monster' wins Audience Choice Award

In 2003 Escape Artists entered its first film competition. Featuring a performance by Paul Malcolm, a founder member of the company, the film was entered into the Big Issue Film Competition and shown at the Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square.

'Monster,' appropriately for the Big Issue, is a short film, based on a play of the same name by Dominic Wallis, about Alfred, a homeless person who is wrongly persecuted for offences he didn't commit.

Out of over a hundred short films submitted to the competition 'Monster' made the shortlist and eventually won the Audience Choice Award.

You can see the film on this website, and read about it, and listen to interviews with the filmakers, on the BBC Cambridgeshire website by following this link

WORKING WITH THE ROYAL SHAKESPEARE COMPANY
Littleport

Working alongside the Royal Shakespeare Company and ADeC Escape Artists helped to devise and stage Love and Marriage a community production in Littleport, Ely in November 2004.

Building up to its residency in Littleport, the RSC's Education Department worked with Escape Artists to stage two months of workshops for the local community exploring a variety of themes and issues relating to Shakespeare’s ‘The Two Gentlemen of Verona’.

Using material taken from these workshops, a community production was devised and written by RSC members with the support of Escape Artists’ personnel. Participants from the community then rehearsed the piece with support from RSC actors and technicians, culminating in a performance in the town.
