IN:FUSION

Theatre workshops promoting dialogue between young people and Youth Offending Teams

Through funding from Connexions and the Woodward Charitable Trust we are addressing the participation and involvement strategy in the Every Child Matters agenda. The aim of the project is to promote dialogue amongst young people and Youth Offending Service (YOS) staff and to empower young people to honestly feedback on the Youth Offending Service in Fenland and parts of London.

Participants will be selected from various orders, different cultural backgrounds and at different stages of their orders to maximise varying view points.

Alongside YOS staff, young people will participate in theatre games focusing on creating trust and working as a team. Other components will include role-reversal exercises in which young people play magistrates and YOS workers play young offenders.

These and other lively elements will be combined to infuse the sessions with humour, creative energy and insight.

The in:fusion workshops will be led by: Megan Bunting - who delivered the original pilot project at Havering YOS and who has previously worked in both theatre and within the Department of Justice in Canada.

What people have said about this course

'The sessions have been extremely successful, consistently attended and have proved rewarding for both young people and staff. It has highlighted improved relationships between practitioners and YOS staff and has established that the YOS can have an effective role in Developing the Strategy for Participation and Involvement of Children and Young People in Havering.'

Darrell Fox, Acting Referral Order Co-ordinator, Havering YOS

'This was an experiment for our team and we are very pleased with the results. I would like to express my thanks for your help with a difficult agenda.'

David Stonehouse, Head of Service, Havering YOS
